Self-guided holidays for individual walkers arranged by Instep mean you do the walking, we do the work.

Instep, run by walkers for walkers, looks after the details that can spoil your anticipation of tackling some of the great British walks. We take the load off your back even before your holiday starts!

Ann and Mick Hartley have tackled many long distance footpaths and challenging walks over the years, as well as exploring canals on foot and by boat. They're a team with the experience to iron out all those irksome details and the tiresome planning which can spoil your anticipation of a great holiday.

The canal walks include Kennet and Avon; Brecon and Abergavenny and the Thames Path. The advantage with Canals/Rivers is that the towpaths are flat and there are plenty of waterside pubs for refreshments.

The long distance footpaths and challenge walks are much more strenuous and involve steep hills, different terrain, and usually longer mileage's. Examples are Wainwright's Coast-to-Coast, the South Downs Way, Offa's Dyke, South West Coastal Footpath, Dales Way and the Cotswold Way.

What are Instep Self-Guided Tours?

INSTEP self-guided walking holidays are specially prepared personal holidays for the individual walker.

These walks are unescorted. In order to assist you to complete the walk you are provided with maps, guide book, and personal itinerary so that you can follow a well defined path which is sign posted at important junctions.

The Instep package contains everything a leader needs to know to become totally independent. Accommodation is booked in advance and your baggage conveyed door to door while you carry just a day sack. Our information packs contain everything you need to know to ensure your walking holiday is free from problems. Village Post Offices for money, stamps and food, with information on banks, telephones and public services are all there.

What is included in an Instep Holiday?

Accommodation in twin, double, or single bedded rooms at comfortable and welcoming small guest houses, farms or hotels, most recommended through personal experience.
En-suite accommodation (bath/shower) will be booked where and when available.
Full English breakfast or alternative.
Baggage transfers. If you are unable to walk due to injury, you can travel with the luggage.

A personal itinerary providing, at-a-glance details of cafes, pubs , outdoor equipment supplies, banks (including those with cash dispensers) , post offices, toilets, tourist information offices, telephone kiosks , transport information, and up-to-date information about the paths.
Comprehensive information pack on local places to visit and see en route.
List of restaurants and shops along the route.
Full details of the transport facilities available to get you to, and from, the walk.
Your day-by-day arrangements clearly laid out.
Car Parking. Advice on the best place to safely park your vehicle, and how to get back to it.
Spare luggage held & delivered to your last accommodation (Coast-to-Coast only)

Options

If you wish to stay several nights at one centre instead of moving on every day, we can arrange, where practical, travel to and from the route by taxi or public transport and transfer of your baggage to another centre. If you would like to stay extra nights for sightseeing or rest days, we can arrange that or you may wish to walk more or less miles each day than suggested. Always remember, Flexibility is our keynote, Reliability our trademark.
